McTimoney Chiropractic Dr Mary Fenwick

McTimoney Chiropractic was founded by John McTimoney. He became fascinated by chiropractic after receiving treatment himself in 1942. An engineer himself, he was struck by the logic of the philosophy of structure, cause & effect evident in the chiropractic way.

He studied & qualified in 1950, learning & assimilating
the wide range of chiropractic manipulations. Gradually
McTImoney began to develop his own approach. This
used gentler techniques dependent on the speed, skill
& movement of the chiropractor.

In this way, he created a system that allows the body to come back into alignment by respecting the innate knowledge present in the human system. The bone naturally returns to its correct resting position without force or stress.

In 1972 he opened the Oxfordshire School of Chiropractic
with 14 students so his knowledge would not be lost.
This has evolved to become the McTimoney College of
Chiropractic, where students can graduate with a Bsc in
Chiropractic.

McTimoney taught that health depends on healthy nerve
messages, & that misalignment of the vertabrae or other joints interfere with the nerve messages - & in turn effect every cell & organ in the body, thereby creating pain &
tension.

He also emphasised that human beings are not purely physical but mental, emotional & spiritual beings & that
treating the whole body restores health to all these aspects of the patient.
